Postdoctoral Position

 

Description:

 

A Postdoctoral Fellowship position is available at the Department of Biological Sciences, Fayetteville State University in Fayetteville, NC. The position is funded by a grant from the Department of Defense (DOD) and is for up to 3 years (subject to a yearly review of performance). Highly motivated individuals with a background in genomics, genetics, and statistics and a good record of publications are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will work to develop comprehensive genetic maps of quantitative trait loci (QTL) for value added trait in soybean seeds, with a focus on seed isoflavones, protein, and oil contents.

 

The following skills are desired in the candidate:

 

á       Design and carry out of quantitative genetic experiments in a lab setting and in the field

á       Analysis of results from quantitative genetic experiments

á       Strong experience in statistical methods applied to plant genetics and genomics: construction of genetic linkage maps, QTL mapping methods, etc.

á       Experience working with statistical genomics and other software such as JoinMap, QTL Cartographer, SAS, JMP, etc.

á       Ability to work in a team, collaborate with other faculties and postdocs in other universities and supervise undergraduate and graduate students within the department.

á       Excellent communication and organizational skills.

Candidates for the position must have a Ph.D. in plant breeding, genetics, molecular biology, plant biology, plant physiology, bioinformatics, or genomics and strong oral and written communication skills.
