Research Specialist – Biochemical analysis
A research
specialist position is available immediately at the Soybean Genomics and
Biotechnology Laboratory at the University of Missouri. The research specialist
will be working in the NIH funded project - MU Center for Botanical
interactions.
Job
summary: Independently perform protein and metabolite extraction, high
performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), and Gas Chromatography (GC) to
identify bioactive molecules in soybeans for human and animal health benefits.
Details:
Analyze soybean lines using various techniques such as HPLC, GC, Immunological
assays, and other methods for functional food and dietary supplemental traits
including isoflavone, phytosterol, and phytoestrogen content. Conduct
extraction and analysis of bioactive molecules from soybean and the screen
soybean lines grown under various environmental conditions to look for changes
in targeted metabolites. Conduct bioassays using novel metabolites and
establish/confirm their roles in human and animal health benefits. Routine use
of complex software for data analysis and preparation of reports. Growth of
soybean seedlings and preparation of samples for metabolite and protein
analysis. Other duties will include the maintenance of a detailed laboratory
notebook to record all experimental data, supervision of undergraduate student
workers, help with the daily maintenance of common laboratory solutions, and
general laboratory upkeep. Applicants should have a Bachelors or Masters degree
in biochemistry, chemistry, biology, plant biology, or a related discipline.
Experience with the HPLC and GC-MS analytical methodologies is essential. This
position requires good communication skills and an ability to establish
effective working relationships in a team environment.
