Research Specialist position in Soybean Molecular Breeding
A Research Specialist
position is available immediately in the Soybean Genomics and Biotechnology Laboratory
at the University of Missouri. The primary responsibility of this position will
be to conduct marker-assisted-selection for seed composition traits in soybean
using advanced SSR and SNP genotyping techniques and high throughput automated
equipment. The candidate will also
conduct lab work contributing to genetic mapping of important soybean
traits. This position will also:
manage greenhouse experiments including planting, watering, and greenhouse
cleaning; oversee tissue collection and DNA extraction from soybean leaf and
seed using high-throughput protocols; DNA amplification using PCR techniques
and the collection and analysis of experimental data. The individual will be
required to maintain a detailed laboratory notebook to record all experimental
data, supervise undergraduate students, help with daily maintenance of common
laboratory solutions, and general laboratory upkeep. Applicants should have a B.S. degree in biology, plant science,
or a closely related degree and 1-2 years of research experience in molecular
techniques. Candidates with an advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) will also be
considered. Knowledge and use of the following instrumentation is highly
preferred: ABI 3100 or 3730, BioMek FX, AutoGen Geneprep. Excellent oral and
written communication skills and the ability to work well in a collaborative
