Research Specialist position in Soybean Cyst Nematode
Phenotyping
A Research Specialist
position is available immediately in the Soybean Genomics and Biotechnology Laboratory
at the University of Missouri. The primary responsibility of this position will
be to conduct experiments to screen soybean genetic mapping populations and germplasm
for soybean cyst nematode (SCN) resistance. The successful applicant will oversee research experiments
in both the greenhouse and the laboratory including seed germination,
inoculation of plants with various nematode strains, and the harvesting and
scanning of roots. The
candidate will be responsible for maintaining the various nematode strains and
increasing them as needed to have adequate numbers of nematodes for the various
experiments. Along with the laboratory and green house experiments, the
Research Specialist will collect, organize, and analyze data. He/she will be required to maintain a
detailed laboratory notebook to record all experimental data information. Other duties will include supervision
of undergraduate students and help with the daily maintenance of the SCN
phenotyping facility. Applicants
should have a B.S. degree in biology, plant science, or a closely related degree
and 1-2 years of research experience. Excellent oral and written communication
skills and the ability to work well in a collaborative research environment are
