Research Specialist/ Lab Manager


A research specialist position is available immediately. the successful candidate will serve as the lab manager of a group composed of ~12 individuals (postdoctoral associates, graduate and undergraduate students). the position will involve oversight of hourly workers, handling the ordering of supplies, some bookkeeping, and other general lab managerial duties. in addition, the successful candidate will be expected to devote at least 50% of their time to conducting research dealing with the functional genomics of soybean root hair infection by the bacterium bradyrhizobium japonicum. this research involves a variety of functional genomic methods; including both dna microarray and proteomic methods. the candidate should possess either an ms degree or a bs degree with more than 3 years additional experience in an area of molecular biological science. the research envisioned will be demanding and strong training in molecular biology is essential. a strong background in biochemistry will be an advantage. the candidate will be expected to work in a team environment and, therefore, strong interpersonal skills will be a plus. the candidate will be expected to have a mature disposition consistent with the managerial aspects of the position. good oral and written communication skills will be an advantage. the candidate should have some familiarity with computers (e.g., excel and statistical analysis). salary will be commiserate with experience and will follow university of missouri guidelines.
