Abstract:This soyabean (Glycine max) germplasm, released in 1993, was selected in the F5 generation of the cross Sharkey √ó T83-5367, where T83-5367 is an insect resistant line derived from Hampton 266A √ó PI171451. It is noted for its resistance to at least 3 foliar feeding insects (Pseudoplusia [Chrysodeixis] includens, Anticarsia gemmatalis and Helicoverpa zea) and is also resistant to Phytophthora sojae and Diaporthe phaseolorum f.sp. meridionalis. In trials on clay soils at Stoneville, D89-9121 yielded 2403 kg/ha, compared with 2480 kg/ha for Sharkey. D89-9121 averaged 3 days later in maturity and 15 cm shorter in plant height than Sharkey. It yielded 2041 kg/ha, 78% of the seed yield of Sharkey, in the absence of insect defoliation. It is a maturity group VII line with determinate growth habit, white flowers, tawny pubescence, tan pods and yellow seeds with brown hila
