Abstract:Banjalong (previously designated WNC 165) is the progeny of a single F4 plant, developed by single-seed descent from the cross Williams 82 (Bemard and Cremeens 1988) x NLC 10. The cross was made by I. A. Rose in February 1988 at Narrabri Research Station. NLC 10 is from the same source as Lachlan (Rose and Banks 1989). The F1-F4 were grown in glasshouses at Narrabri, and field testing commenced in 1989-90 in the F5 at Yanco by J. A. Andrews. WNC 165 was 1 of 200 lines selected for evaluation in the Lachlan Valley, based on maturity, plant type, and yield. In 1990-91 and subsequent seasons it was tested at Condobolin, and at Wirrinya in 1992-93 by A. L. Bemardi. Field reactions to phytophthora root rot were tested at Condobolin in 1991-92 and 1992-93
