Abstract:Of 29 isolates from soybean in Ont. and Man., identified on the basis of biochemical and pathogenicity tests, 9 constituted a new race (race 9) when differentiated on 7 soybean cvs. The remaining isolates were virulent on all cvs., thus conforming to isolates of races 2 and 4, which were not separated by the test. Several of the Canadian isolates in this group differed from representative isolates of races 2 and 4 in the type and severity of symptoms produced. Systemic symptoms (chlorotic mottling, yellowing, formation of narrow, elongated leaves and stunted growth) further differentiated the isolates grouped in the same race by cv. reaction. Systemic yellowing has not been described before.
