Abstract:Among 2075 foreign and domestic soyabean cultivars tested under natural infection at Hokkaido Central Agricultural Experiment Station, 20 were resistant to SDV although their resistance was not complete. Since these resistant cultivars had inferior agronomic characteristics, they were crossed with recommended cultivars and 30 promising lines selected which showed low SDV infection combined with good plant type, early maturity and good quality. Selected lines were further tested under conditions of severe natural infection and inoculation with viruliferous aphids. Among 5 selected promising lines, the new highly resistant cv. Tsurukogane was released in Hokkaido in 1984.
