Abstract:Hutcheson soyabean, selected from V68-1034 X Essex, is a mid-Maturity Group V determinate cultivar. In regional trials (1984-86), it outyielded Essex and Forrest by 12%; in Virginia, it outyielded Essex by 6 and 10% in full season and double crop plantings, respectively. It is thought to be best adapted to latitudes of 34-38°N. Hutcheson is resistant to bacterial pustule (Xanthomonas campestris pv. phaseoli), soybean mosaic virus, peanut mottle virus and peanut stunt virus. Other disease resistance and quality characters are similar to those of Essex.
