Abstract:Thiram treated and untreated seeds of 2 soyabean varieties were sown on 5 dates with 15 d intervals from 15 June until 15 Aug. in Bangladesh. Seedling emergence varied significantly among different sowing dates, varieties and seed treatments. No definite correlation could be established between seedling emergence and sowing dates. Cultivar PK-472 gave higher seedling emergence than cultivar Bragg. Seeds treated with thiram gave consistently higher seedling emergence than the untreated seed irrespective of sowing dates. Incidence of Alternaria leaf spot (Alternaria alternata), anthracnose (Colletotrichum dematium), Cercospora leaf spot (C. kikuchii), pod rot and blight (Fusarium semitectum, C. kikuchii and C. truncatum) and Rhizoctonia aerial blight (R. solani) was higher in early sown crops compared with late sown. The severity of most of the diseases was higher in cultivar Bragg than cultivar PK-472 and on plants grown from untreated seeds.
