Title:Impact of host age at infection time on the severity of Myrothecium leaf spot disease of soybean

Abstract:Field trials conducted during the rainy season of 1990 established that yields were greater and disease index was less when younger (20-day-old) soyabean cv. JS 72-44 plants were inoculated with M. roridum compared with soyabean crops of advanced age (34-48 days old). This effect was thought to be the result of the creation of a favourable microclimate for M. roridum within the more mature, dense crop canopy, rather than a physiological response in the soyabeans.
