Abstract:The isolate from soybean in Ill. was identified as groundnut stunt virus by host range, physical properties, morphology and serological relationships. The host range was not as extensive as that of GSV isolates from other areas. Amsoy, Bansei, Clark 63 and Rampage soybean cvs. showed only very mild symptoms, and 6 other soybean and several bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) cvs. were not infected. Lespedeza and Coronilla spp. were hosts and their use as forage and/or cover crops could increase the reservoir of GSV for its spread by aphids to other crops.ADDITIONAL ABSTRACT:An Illinois isolate of this virus from Glycine max caused only mild symptoms on the varieties Amsoy, Bansei, Clark 63 and Rampage; it did not affect six other soya-bean varieties or several varieties of Phaseolus vulgaris.
