Title:Race 4 of the soybean downy mildew fungus

Abstract:A brief account of this work in North Carolina on physiologic race 4 of Perono-spora manshurica, the agent of soy-bean downy mildew, has already been noticed [R.A.M., 33, p. 133]. The disease ratings assigned to the new race in a second test on 26th May, 1952, were uniformly lower than those given in the first (12th April), presumably because it was impracticable to maintain sufficiently low temperatures for the abundant production of conidial inoculum. N49-2560 (S100 √ó CNS), used only in the second trial, reacted similarly to Roanoke and Rokusun.
