Abstract: | RCAT Columbus is a late maturity Group II indeterminate soyabean (Glycine max) cultivar with excellent yield potential and lodging resistance and with good tolerance to phytophthora root rot caused by Phytophthora megasperma f. sp. glycinea. RCAT Columbus was developed from the cross of Elgin √ó A3127 made in 1985 and progeny were advanced using the modified single seed descent in the F2 and F3 generations. The yield potential of RCAT Columbus is superior to Elgin 87, RCAT Tabby, 9302, Dominator and T2967 and is similar to 9273. This cultivar is broadly adapted to the 3150-3400 CHU areas of Ontario, particularly on medium textured soils. Seed protein and seed oil contents are similar to other soyabean cultivars |
