Title:The stylet sheath as an indicator of feeding activity by the southern green stink bug [Nezara viridula] on soybeans.
Authors:Bowling, C.C.
Source:J. Econ. Entomol. 1980, 73(1):1-3
Abstract:Stylet sheaths were used as an indicator to study the feeding activity of N. viridula (L.) on soybeans. First-stage nymphs did not feed. An average of 158.4 stylet sheaths was produced during the 23.5 day duration of the last 4 immature stages. Both sexes of mature southern green stink bugs fed an equal number of times. Increased population levels in cage studies resulted in increases in stylet sheaths and percent damaged beans and reductions in yields.
