Title:Cercospora sojina race 5: a threat to soybeans in the southeastern United States.
Authors:Phillips, D., Boerma, H.R.
Source:Phytopath. 1981, 71(3):334-336
Abstract:Severe frogeye was found on this crop at widely separated locations in Ga. during the 1978 growing season. The reaction of several cvs. to C. sojina isolated from affected plants indicated that it differed from previously described races. The Ga. isolate was designated race 5, to which the cv. Bragg and other widely grown cvs. are susceptible. The reactions of many cvs. grown in the SE USA are presented.ADDITIONAL ABSTRACT:Conidia of Cercospora sojina from cultivar Bragg, growing in Georgia, USA, were used to inoculate GaSoy 17, Roanoke, Hood, Lee and Davis, and isolates from Bragg and three of the inoculated cultivars were used to inoculate 12 cultivars. The reactions indicated that the Bragg isolate was different from races 1, 2, 3 or 4. The Bragg isolate is designated race 5.
