Abstract:Flyer soyabean (PI534646), released in 1988, originated as a BC3F2 selection from the cross A31274 X L24. Flyer has purple flowers, tawny pubescence, tan pods and dull yellow seeds with black hila. It is classified as maturity group IV, intermediate between Williams 82 and Spark, and 5 and 1-2 days later than its sister line Resnik and Williams 82, resp. Flyer gave 1% lower yields than Resnik and 10% higher yields than A3127 in Ohio trials. It yielded more than Williams 82 and Ripley in both Ohio and regional trials. Flyer was 5-8 cm shorter and more lodging resistant than Williams 82 in most trials. Flyer is resistant to all 24 described races of Phytophthora megasperma f.sp. glycinea except races 12, 16, 19, 20 and 25. It is moderately resistant to Cercospora kikuchii, soybean mosaic potyvirus, Peronospora manshurica, Corynebacterium [Curtobacterium] flaccumfaciens, Diaporthe phaseolorum and Microsphaera diffusa
