Abstract:Crockett soyabean (PI535807) originated as an advanced line from the cross Hampton 266A X PI171451 after selection for resistance to feeding by Epilachna varivestis (at Blackville, South Carolina) and Anticarsia gemmatalis (at Guaiba (Brazil), Isabela (Puerto Rico) and Beaumont, Texas). It has purple flowers, tawny pubescence, tan pods at maturity and dull yellow seeds with brown hila. Compared with Dowling, Crockett was 1 day later, 8 cm taller and showed slightly greater lodging, at Beaumont, Texas. Crocket is resistant to defoliating insects, stem canker [Diaporthe phaseolorum] and frogeye leaf spot [Cercospora sojina]. It is moderately resistant to Septoria glycines and Nezara viridula. It has good seed quality and seedling vigour and has shown resistance to the herbicide metribuzin.
