Abstract:The soyabean genotypes T83-5408, G81-296 and N85-214 and the commercial variety Braxton were fed to larvae of Heliothis virescens and Pseudoplusia includens [Chrysodeixis includens] in the laboratory at 27°C, 60% RH and LD 14:10. Survivorship, larval development times, larval and pupal weights and adult female fecundity and longevity were determined. Larvae of H. virescens survived better with Braxton than with G81-296, but survival of larvae of C. includens was only slightly affected by soyabean genotype. The development of larvae of H. virescens was delayed for 2-5 days on T83-5408, N85-214 and G81-296 compared with Braxton. Larvae fed Braxton were heavier than those fed T83-5408 and G810296. Larvae of C. includens fed Braxton, T83-5804 and G81-296 were lighter than those fed N85-214. Adult females of H. virescens reared from larvae fed Braxton and N85-24 laid more eggs (71 and 75/day, resp.) than those fed T93-5408 (35/day)
