Abstract:Eight soyabean varieties and 24 lines were evaluated for resistance to peanut mild mottle virus (PMMV) and peanut stunt virus (PSV) following both inoculation and natural field infection in 1985-87. Reactions varied from highly susceptible to highly resistant, with 37.5% and 9.4% of entries being highly resistant to PSV and PMMV, respectively. Jing 784 was highly resistant to both viruses, while Yudou 2 and Yuejin 5 had high resistance to PMMV and moderate resistance to PSV. From a study of 1253 seedlings derived from infected plants it appeared tha PMMV was not transmitted through the seed.
