Abstract:York soya bean, which is resistant to soya bean mosaic virus (SMV) and peanut mottle virus (PMV), was crossed with Lee 68, which is resistant to peanut stunt virus (PSV). The genotypes of 605 F2 plants were determined from the reactions to virus infection of F3 families. Single genes appeared to determine reaction to SMV, reaction to PMV and also pubescence colour; evidence of monogenic control of reaction to PSV was obtained from six out of ten families. Independent segregation occurred for characters other than reaction to PMV and reaction to SMV. Genes determining these characters were linked, with an estimated recombination value of 3.7%
