Abstract:A mathematical simulation model was developed for the seasonal abundance of larvae of Anticarsia gemmatalis, main Brazilian defoliator pest of soyabean, using previously published information. Seven submodels were composed to comprise the major simulation model of the insect; the soyabean plant, migration of adults, insecticide application, predation and parasitism, entomopathogens and environment. Working hypotheses, equations generated and developed, parameters and fundamentals of the mechanisms for study are presented. Although without validation, the results furnished by the model were considered normal when compared with observed field populations of the insect.
